Family Fishing Day

Family Fishing Events offer a host of fishing opportunities at stocked ponds throughout the state. On-site ODFW staff and volunteers provide equipment, teach youth how to bait and cast, and help kids “reel in” their catch. Adults can get tips on basic rigging, fish identification and casting. The program provides a unique opportunity for families to learn how to fish together and discover just how much fun it can be!

Local Family Fishing Day Events:

Second Friday Poetry Sharing

If you’re poetry lover, spend a night out listening or reading a variety of poetry with other poetry lovers. The event takes place at the Grants Pass Museum of Art in downtown every second Friday of the month. Refreshments will be served and door prizes will be won! The event is free, however, donations are always welcome.

Boatnik 2012

Boatnik is annual event held every Memorial Day weekend since 1959 by the Grants Pass Active Club. The event starts on Thursday and concludes on Memorial Day. Throughout the event you’ll enjoy carnival rides, jet boat races, contests, vendors, a parade, live entertainment and more. The best part is Boatnik is held along the Rogue River, under the beautiful canopy of trees in Riverside Park. Admission to the event is free, however, there is a fee for the carnival rides, certain activities such as Bingo, and for food and other vendors. You can buy carnival armbands at Umqua Bank and Lil Pantry for $22 instead of $27 at the park. All the funds raised from Boatnik are returned to the community through support of local children’s and youth programs.

Carnival Starts on Thursday at 1pm.

Friday:

Carnival open from 12pm to 11:45pm.

Artists, Authors and Antique Fair

Meet and greet with local authors and artists while perusing arts, crafts and antiques at the Historic Wolf Creek Inn. In addition to the local art scene you’ll enjoy live music and a patio sandwich buffet. Buck Canyon Gardens is hosting their annual Peony Show, serving northern California and southern Oregon. This event takes place every year during the peak of peony flowering. Irises are also in bloom during the show as well as many companion plants. This year they have added to the intersectional peony and iris collections. The featured peonies this year are “First Arrival,” one of the most popular intersectional peonies introduced by Roger Anderson, and “Rose Heart” one of the most sought after herbaceous varieties. Karen’s “Bits & Pieces Nursery” will also be offering something new, so come check it out. Come early for best selection of iris and intersectional peonies. Please note: You will need to bring cash or use a personal check for all sale transactions at the Peony Show.

Rogue Valley Wine & Brewfest

Sample six different beers and wines and take home a souvenir pint or wine glass while you’re at it!
